Parent Info Night 2017

Thank you to everyone who came to our Parent Info Night at CIS this week!  It was simply an informational meeting to tell you more about the high ability block and how we operate.   Here's a link for the slides from our presentation.  As always, please email me if you have any questions! It's already been two weeks (today) since the start of school, and routines/procedures are going so well!  We made a school-wide push to follow certain rules in certain areas, and so far the entire school has been very impressive.  I'm excited to see the awesome things that will happen at CIS this year! I sent home Scholastic Book Orders last week, and wanted to let you know the deadline for forms is this Friday, September 1.  If you'd like to order online, click this link and use Class Code: MBB86.  This will give you the option to pay online, and the books will still be delivered to school. September lunch menus went home in the take-home folders and student...

Solar Eclipse Day 2017

August 21, 2017 marked an exciting day for our class - a solar eclipse!  Because of our location in the United States, we only saw an 87% eclipse, but it was fun to watch the moon pass in front of the sun with our cool glasses! :) Starting this week, we have homework in Language Arts class.  Students should read 30 minutes a day for a total of 150 minutes during the week.  Please make sure students are reading at least 3 nights a week, even if they meet the 150 minute requirement on the first day.  Just like eating at a buffet doesn't mean you can go the rest of the week without eating, reading all 150 minutes on one day and reading nothing for six days after will not improve reading skills! :)  Title and number of minutes should be written in the planner and signed/initialed by an adult.  See photo below for an example: Click here for a link to the first newsletter that was on the reverse of the Class Dojo codes I passed out last week.  If y...

Second Day - 2017

Another great day!  Today we did a "normal" schedule and all students had an easy time rotating through all periods.  We got to take the Chromebooks for a spin after talking about guidelines and expectations.  We created an "Emoji Introduction" telling about ourselves using emoji symbols, and then played Selfie Tic-Tac-Toe (or Tic-Tac-Tie, thanks to my typo 😜). Flexible seating is working well for now! Finding left handers was a challenge. Selfie time! Getting to know our classmates! In today's Take Home folder: - School Picture order form - Note from Mrs. Cassady about Solar Eclipse on Monday, Aug 21 COMING SOON: I forgot to send home Class Dojo sign up sheets today, so I'm going to print out a quick Welcome Letter for the reverse side and send them tomorrow.  I'll post or link a digital copy on here as well.

First Day of School - 2017

Hello and welcome! I had a blast meeting students at Orientation night, and today was a great first day back to school!  We learned procedures for common areas, including how to navigate the cafeteria and recess.  Our first special for the school year (for our homeroom class) was the computer lab with Ms. Ruiz, and it looks like we're going to learn a lot about how to use technology responsibly and creatively! We also had a brief time to try out our new schedule, so students rotated through their class periods for about 20 minutes each.  I can't speak for other teachers, but in Language Arts, we will be using Class Dojo.  Please get signed up through this link .  You can either search for me, or I will be handing out class codes tomorrow during our first "normal" class period. Things that went home in the Take-Home Folder (black): - Three sheets from the nurse (white, yellow, coral): The yellow and coral sheets must be signed and returned.  The ...

FALL UPDATE

It's unbelievable that the first quarter of the school year is almost over.  It feels like just yesterday I was shaking hands with the students for the first time on Orientation Night! Some memorable moments so far: First CIS Assembly - We had an assembly with all 5th graders in the school.  Some members of the high school football team and cheerleading squad came to add some school spirit to the mix!  Mr. Wagner also showed us a video from the GoPro he had on the 1st day of school.  It was a fantastic way to kick off the school year. Camp Day with Camp Eberhart counselors - What a great day for outdoor games and activities!  The weather was fantastic, and we learned about Native Americans, wildlife in the stream behind our school, and how to work as a team. :) First Fog Delay -  I don't remember (in my 3 short years of teaching at Concord) ever having a fog delay so early in the school year.  This usually requires some rearranging in the sched...

CAMP DAY

Camp Day with Camp Eberhart staff was excellent again this year! I'm so proud to say that our students worked well together and were so enthusiastic and supportive of each other.  Camp Day is always the first chance we have to get to accept each other's strengths and weaknesses and use it to get to know each other better. Below are some pictures and videos I was able to capture during the activities.  Enjoy! PS: Thank you to Jonatan and Wesley's mothers for coming and showing support! :)
